Title: An In-Depth Look at the Social and Political Ramifications of Polls and Graphs in America (direct download)
Length: 11:08
File Size: 36.1mb
File Type: QuickTime .mov

Short Synopsis: A humorous documentary short that takes aim at "spot polling" and other questionable tactics used by the poll-centric media to determine "what the public think." The Wompedy Club finds out "what americans think about polls."

About: It was summer, we wanted to make a video, and conflicting poll results and biased graphics to accompany them seemed to be more pervasive than ever. The Wompedy Club's Daniel and Alan decided the best way to combat the problem would be to become part of it.

When we discussed what would come of going to the grocery store in the middle of the night to question random people about something, we assumed that they wouldn't go along with it, and would turn us down (which is what we wanted to happen). However, when we got there and had the cameras rolling it seemed everyone wanted to talk to us. After a while, we gave up, and started telling people to just act like they didn't want to talk to us.

The funny thing is that when we didn't have enough footage, and had to go back a second night for more, literally every single person we tried to talk to turned us down. Which, despite being what we initially wanted (and needed for the sake of our mock piece), we found it strangely off-putting to actually be so rudely turned away.

An additional fight sequence was shot between one of the pollees and Alan, but it didn't make it into the final edit. I'm not sure why. I think it was for some unsatisfyingly vauge reason, like "it didn't work."

This piece was shot by Kelly Brannen and JL Chapmen, and by Daniel S Dunnam and Alan Hatchett here and there. It features Daniel and Alan as well as Wompedy members Nancy Ryan, Heath Stallings, Steve Wall, and Jerry Chapman.
